losing my beloved shadow

.
Once, because she loved me best,
The moon sewed my shadow to the earth,
Pointing ahead of my footsteps
To lands of undefended trust.

"This way! This way!" my shadow crowed,
"Hurry up! We'll miss the show!"
And follow I did with uncertain steps,
Into the unseen up-ahead.

Once there was no other choice.
Shadows do not lie
And who was I to contradict
What loves me best?

But now my shadow has moved on.
I miss its bounding energies and yet...
What loves best nestles in my shoulder's nook
And murmurs with my unspeaking lips: "Love. Ain't that grand?"
.
